Hake (Merluza)

Hake is the common name for several marine species of the order Gadiformes, distributed across both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Pacific Ocean.

The name merluza derives from the Latin Merluccius, meaning “sea pike,” referencing its morphological similarities to freshwater species. Hake is widely appreciated in South American coastal cuisine due to its white meat, delicate flavor, low fat content, and versatility in premium culinary applications.

It is an excellent source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, and phosphorus.
